Week of March 9 - March 16, 2018
FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT
The project is 60% complete.
Closures are subject to change due to weather or other reasons and are scheduled as follows:
- Tuesday, March 13, Wednesday, March 14 and Thursday, March 15: Southbound I-5 all lanes closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Northbound and southbound I-605 connector ramps to southbound I-5 closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Update: The City of Santa Fe Springs has tentatively scheduled the closure of Florence Ave at the Florence Ave Bridge for the three nights beginning, Monday, March 19.
Southbound I-5 overnight full freeway closures may occur next week between I-605 and Norwalk Blvd for installation of footings at the bridge columns in the median, depending on rain. The first possible night of closures will be Monday, March 12. Updates will be posted here and on the My5LA.com twitter site.
Please be aware that a separate repaving project will also occupy up to three lanes on southbound I-5 between Washington Blvd. and I-605 on the nights of Wednesday through Saturday for three weeks, if weather permits. Consider using the southbound I-710 (Long Beach Freeway) to eastbound State Route 91 (Artesia Freeway) as an alternate route. This separate project is funded by SB1, California’s new transportation revenue.
All closures are scheduled for separate nights and will RE-OPEN each morning. Detours signs will be in place.

The construction of both retaining walls and bridge abutment along the Florence Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5 is almost complete. Once the retaining walls are complete, the area against the walls will be backfilled. Then construction of the sound wall on top of the retaining wall near Longworth Avenue can begin. Construction of sound walls along the east side of I-5 in this area are projected to be complete around August.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY AND PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT
Construction on this project is 79% complete.
In the coming weeks, crews will continue to prepare the new lanes of northbound I-5 for paving. I-5 from Silverbow Ave north all the way up to Pioneer Blvd is in varying stages of progress with crews spreading base (gravel), grading, compacting and paving. This activity includes compaction with a vibratory roller, so residents in the nearby neighborhoods may experience noise and vibration during the day. Photos below:

As crews work on Imperial Highway, Norwalk Boulevard, and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction may be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Upcoming changes: In April, Norwalk Blvd / San Antonio Dr, will be closed for two nights as we install girders across the second half of the San Antonio Bridge.
Flyers were distributed to all homes along the designated construction portion of Mondon Avenue and the corresponding cul-de-sacs (below):
ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

- Shoemaker Ave from the railroad tracks just south of the new Shoemaker freeway overcrossing to S. Firestone Blvd.
- The entire Shoemaker Ave freeway overcrossing and ramps on both sides of I-5.
- Both directions of S. Firestone Blvd at the intersection of Shoemaker Ave.
To allow final striping, the same closures will be in effect from 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 13 until 6 a.m., Wednesday, March 14.
Access Shoemaker Ave from Excelsior Dr and avoid using Firestone Blvd.

Valley View Ave will be elevated to meet with the newly elevated Valley View Avenue Bridge. In turn, N. Firestone Blvd will be elevated to meet Valley View Ave. In preparation for these modifications, N. Firestone Blvd. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Gateway Dr and Valley View Ave by late March. Trucks over 2,500 lbs. will not be permitted to drive on this portion of N. Firestone Blvd. Access to the entrance of the Holiday Inn La Mirada will remain open. The intersection of Valley View Ave at N. Firestone Blvd is pictured below:
By late March, the existing N. Firestone Boulevard will close for more than one year between Knott Avenue and Trojan Way in La Mirada for demolition to prepare for the widening of I-5 and to allow demolition and reconstruction of the bridge over Coyote Creek. N. Firestone Boulevard will be rebuilt to the east. Private business access will only be permitted to Osmond Ave.
In preparation, flyers will be distributed to businesses in the immediate area and signs will be placed in strategic locations in the neighborhood advising of the forthcoming closure. Map below:
|Construction of two retaining walls south of the Valley View Avenue bridge by S. Firestone continues. Crews will pour concrete footings next week and continue abutment work on the Valley View Avenue bridge. .
